It is already the case that men must choose on this day who they will serve: whether the Lord Jesus Christ, or the false gods of human governments that stand opposed to Him and His Kingdom (Psa 2:1-2). A man cannot have two masters, per Jesus. God is a jealous God and commands men to not have other gods before Him for this reason (Ex 20:3-5), which is nothing less than a command to not raise up human rulers.
In all of Scripture, from the books of Moses, Joshua, the prophets, and the Lord Jesus himself, it has been the case that men cannot hold to the position of two gods, two lords, or two masters, but that they must decidedly choose between one or the other, discarding the one entirely and pledging exclusive allegiance and service to the other.
“Then Elijah approached all the people and said, ‘How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him. But if Baal is God, follow him’ (1 Kings 18:21).
Men must choose whether they serve God or the State, or rather, they already make this decision when they turn to human government as their protectors and lawgivers, which is decidedly to deny the Lord as your judge, king, and lawgiver (Isa 33:22). This decision is always made as a fact of the matter. Those who believe in human government necessarily dispense with God’s Kingdom. This is why statists’ defense of human government and its presidents, police, and soldiers is always at the forefront of their minds: they have discarded God and are defending their false gods. The only thing that distorts this, for the time being, is that these men have taken the Lord’s name in vain in addition to their idolatries. They have claimed the Lord, all while they are actually servants of the government of the devil. This has allowed men to believe it is legitimate for Christians to join Caesar’s government or vote for Caesars themselves. Since men who claim to be Christians vote for men to rule them, few have called them out as people who are chasing after the false gods of worldly governments, which makes them not Christians at all.
The real case is that men must always decide between God or human government, as the two are directly opposed, so much that there is no real analogous contradiction with which to even compare it to. “Oil and water” would hardly do justice to the antagonism that exists between God’s anarchistic order and man’s statist systems, and perhaps only a violent chemical reaction might do justice to the hostility that exists between the governments of the world and God’s non-authoritarian government that is entirely opposed to these systems.
Though men have, of course, claimed otherwise in their sinful attempt to mix the two kingdoms and claim that God approves of their authoritarian systems of government, there is no neutrality, dual-allegiances, or serving two kingdoms in the Bible. The word of God is a call to serve the Lord alone, to seek His Kingdom exclusively, and abandon the political practices of the world and its governments. Those who wish to count themselves as servants of the Lord must put away their other gods, which means not just some pagan deities, but the human ruler-gods of the pagan kingdoms of the world. All of Scripture is a call for men to make the choice between serving the Lord, or serving the Egyptian-statists of the world and turning away from Him. Unlike those phony Christians who pledge allegiance to such evil institutions as the “United States of America” and trust in their police forces and militaries to save them, the call of Scripture is to pledge allegiance to God and trust in Him to save us from precisely the men who the evil statists of the world trust in to secure and liberate them.
“Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; cast aside the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD! The people replied, ‘Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods! For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled. And the LORD drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, because He is our God!’ But Joshua said to the people, ‘You are not able to serve the LORD, for He is a holy God; He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your rebellion or your sins. If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring disaster on you and consume you, even after He has been good to you.’ ‘No!’ replied the people. ‘We will serve the LORD!’ Then Joshua told them, ‘You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the LORD.’ ‘We are witnesses!’ they said. ‘Now, therefore,’ he said, ‘get rid of the foreign gods among you and incline your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.’ So the people said to Joshua, ‘We will serve the LORD our God and obey His voice'” (Joshua 24:14-24).
There can be no reconciliation between the Kingdom of God and the false kingdoms of the world and their false gods. Light does not mix with darkness, and all men must choose where they stand.
“What agreement can exist between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will dwell with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.’ ‘Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.’ And: ‘I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty'” (2 Corinthians 6:16-18).
God is always waiting to be the King of a people who turn back to Him as their only God, but the peoples of the earth have always been a bunch of statist whores who wanted to idolatrously pursue human governments and human rulers as their gods and saviors, even as these people continue to let them down and ruin their lives and societies as a judgment for these sinful pursuits. The people of the world, who are characteristically defined by their statism, have always been a people who have trusted in presidents, kings, princes, judges, lawmakers, police, and soldiers to save them. They have imagined that it is possible to serve man-gods without contradicting their professed allegiance and service to the Lord God.
Statists who falsely claim Christ
As much as men have claimed that they can serve the Lord and Caesars as “citizens of two kingdoms,” as much as they have claimed that Jesus’ Kingship is one that is shared between Him and other “subordinate kings” who act as His earthly mediators, our God is not one to share His rulership with other men. He is the Lord of Lord and King of kings, not in some hierarchical sense, but in an exclusionary one. “I am the LORD; that is My name! I will not yield My glory to another or My praise to idols” (Isaiah 42:8).
For thousands of years, though, men have been neither hot nor cold for God and His Kingdom. They have pretended that it is possible to play some middle-ground, where they’re neutral on such matters. They have made it seem as if they can claim to serve God, while also serving the Caesars and Pharaohs of the world and “backing the blue” and “supporting the troops” too. They are not entirely cold, to where they deny God altogether. But they are not entirely hot, either, where they go all in for God and abandon their false gods. Indeed, it is not like the history of all the past ages of statism have been purely “atheist” ones, which is not at all to imply that abandoning God is actually a means of obtaining liberty. On the contrary, it is precisely a rejection of God that leads to statism. When men abandon God, they inevitably set up new gods in the State. It is just that our history has often been one where men have rejected God by turning to systems of human government, all while keeping His name in their lips. We are not at all saying here that Christianity causes statism, but that many of these ungodly men have claimed to be Christians, too. They, of course, are not. All statists reject Christianity. But the problem they create is that men have perceived them to be actual Christians, when they are not.
Much of history, then, is people claiming to know God, all while they in fact and in deed turned away from Him and sought systems of human government to “protect and serve” them rather than the Lord who frees those who trust in Him from the bondage of Egypt. It is not like Americans today entirely reject the Lord. Rather, they claim His name on top of their ungodly statism. Much of history then has always been men who believed they could mix the two kingdoms — God’s and man’s. It has not been people who would admit that their worldly politics make them ungodly men, but has consisted rather of men who claim to follow the Lord all while they set up and support false gods. This was the same with the Israelites in the Bible, who were always failing to follow God’s instruction.
“For the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites and commanded them, ‘Do not worship other gods or bow down to them; do not serve them or sacrifice to them. Instead, worship the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power and an outstretched arm. You are to bow down to Him and offer sacrifices to Him. And you must always be careful to observe the statutes, ordinances, laws, and commandments He wrote for you. Do not worship other gods. Do not forget the covenant I have made with you. Do not worship other gods, but worship the LORD your God, and He will deliver you from the hands of all your enemies.’ But they would not listen, and they persisted in their former customs. So these nations worshiped the LORD but also served their idols, and to this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their fathers did” (2 Kings 17:35-41).
The stone-hearted statists
As we see in American society today, men have always tried to waver between two opinions and two masters. They have claimed that they have dual-allegiance and dual-citizenship between the Kingdom of God and the kingdoms of man, when these two kingdoms exist entirely apart from one another and can never be mixed. They have called themselves Christians, but pledged allegiance to flags and the governments they represented. They have tried to mix “God and country,” when there is nothing more contradictory under the sun. They have said, absurdly and evilly, that “Jesus is my savior, but Trump is my president.” They have confined the Lord to merely a spiritual role of soul-saving, while thinking that human rulers were necessary for their physical salvation on earth — even when God told the Israelites, who sought a human king to “fight their battles for them,” that He wanted to be a King in this sense too.
God has always called the people of the earth to make the Lord their only God, but “they played the whore in Egypt” (Ezekiel 23:3). Our people have prostituted themselves out to the Egyptians for “national defense,” and to the Assyrians for bread. God has always tried to tell men they could not claim to be His followers while going after the idolatrous and evil statist ways of the peoples of the world, whether by sending prophets who warned of judgment or by bring the harsh realities of judgment directly upon them to teach them a lesson in these sins, yet still they have not wanted to learn from these direct and physical rebukes that have come at the hands of the very men who they have trusted in to “save” them.
“Yet through all His prophets and seers, the LORD warned Israel and Judah, saying, ‘Turn from your wicked ways and keep My commandments and statutes, according to the entire Law that I commanded your fathers and delivered to you through My servants the prophets.’ But they would not listen, and they stiffened their necks like their fathers, who did not believe the LORD their God. They rejected His statutes and the covenant He had made with their fathers, as well as the decrees He had given them. They pursued worthless idols and became worthless themselves, going after the surrounding nations that the LORD had commanded them not to imitate. They abandoned all the commandments of the LORD their God and made for themselves two cast idols of calves and an Asherah pole. They bowed down to all the host of heaven and served Baal. They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire and practiced divination and soothsaying. They devoted themselves to doing evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger. So the LORD was very angry with Israel, and He removed them from His presence. Only the tribe of Judah remained, and even Judah did not keep the commandments of the LORD their God, but lived according to the customs Israel had introduced. So the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel. He afflicted them and delivered them into the hands of plunderers, until He had banished them from His presence” (2 Kings 17:13-20).
Even under judgment, at the hands of the very rulers who they thought would come and save them, men have refused to turn back to God. He has sent the Egyptians and Babylonians to plunder the people who turned to these Egyptian-statist ways themselves, and still they have refused to be corrected by it and realize their urgent need to return to the Lord as their God. He has sent up numerous prophets in our time to tell people that they cannot serve God and Caesar, and they have fought against these words.
The reprobate statists of the world try to muddy the waters here, too. They will agree that “there is no neutrality.” Yet their idea of there being no neutral ground is not on the issue of supporting a State or not, which is really what differentiates true Christians from the fakes, but rather a confused idea where you either support a “Christian State” or a “secular State.” Their rallying-cry of calling men to not be neutral is not to choose between God or Caesar, but merely to get Caesar to vainly profess the Lord’s name. These fake Christians of the world, such as “Christian” nationalists, are not actually upset that the people of the world have gone down the wicked statist path, which anyone who knows the Lord weeps over. They are merely upset when false gods don’t take the Lord’s name in vain, and likewise are easily satisfied merely when human rulers claim to be Christians. “The Vice President just mentioned Jesus! Our country is so back!” These vain professions of faith, they count as a win for Christianity.
We’ve got a long way to go then before any sizable number of men are willing to get on the narrow road out of bondage that comes through repenting and seeking God’s Kingdom, for up until this point, these ideas have been fought against tooth and nail even by men who profess to be Christians. The ideas of Christian Anarchism – that God’s Kingdom is not of this world and its systems – are just as unpopular as they have always been, and it is difficult in any age to get men on board with the straight path out of Egypt. As H. L. Mencken once wrote, “Every step in human progress, from the first feeble stirrings in the abyss of time, has been opposed by the great majority of men.” The average person has always preferred comfortable delusions to truth. They are willing even to lie to themselves to make their worldview more conducive to getting along in a world that is coming down around them, which of course is the time when the truth is needed more than ever.
Is it too hard to serve God alone?
God asks one main thing of us really—to put our faith and trust in Him alone—and still men fail to follow this life-saving counsel, turning aside to the false gods of Egypts, Babylons, and Americas of the world and trusting in them for their salvation.
“What does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD that I am giving you this day for your own good?” (Deuteronomy 10:12-13).
All God wants is for people to remember that He is the God that smashes the Egyptians and drowns Pharaohs and his officers in seas for those who pursue His Kingdom and seek His ways, and still men turn around and go back to Egypt and say that they couldn’t have “law and order” without the Egyptians ruling over them. “Above all, fear the LORD and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you” (1 Samuel 12:24). Rather than marvel at the works and the outstretched arm of God against the Egyptians, men run back to Egypt for their security and liberty, only to find neither. And they do this all while spouting how “Jesus is my savior,” though they clearly trust in men to save — to “protect and serve” — them.
The growing divide
The scene we have today, where Babylon has not yet gone totally bust, is probably one that looked much like the times that preceded the complete destruction and downfall of most every statist society in a history: a people who thought they could waver between two opinions and profess the Lord with their lips, but who raise up and serve human rulers as their false gods and see no trouble in it. They did this at a time when the evils of statism were more isolated, ie., when Pharaoh’s officers were only quietly and slowly picking up men off the street and putting them in cages with little objection from the masses, as opposed to a time when Pharaoh’s boots occupied the streets in a full-time campaign to squash dissent, brand anyone who opposes their terrorism as a “terrorist,” and reveal themselves as an unashamed and open police state. It has been easy for professing Christians to say they “stand with law enforcement” when it appeared to be the case that “law enforcement” were really just some innocent “crime fighters” and “good guys” taking down the bad guys (though, this was never the case). There were less systematic crushings of the people to point to as evidently unchristian operations.
The problem then with American-dreamland, where the temporary comforts that come with living under the dominant empire in the world have allowed men to think they could continue in their wicked ways forever, is that the reality of the contradiction of “God and country” has not become readily apparent for all to see. Few men, at the close of the twentieth century, in the relatively quiet 1990s, thought there was any problem with calling yourself a Christian and “supporting the country.” To most, it seemed like these were things that all good men should necessarily mash together. It was almost expected for men to utter, “I love God and my country.” Furthermore, the widespread evils of the State had not yet exploded, though they were always going this way anyway, as anyone who knew the word of the Lord should have been able to see. You could say you supported police and soldiers without yet being seen as someone who explicitly supported them stomping on men and kidnapping them in the street — which wasn’t largely taking place yet. The psychological operation of September 11th, 2001, the following wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, legislative acts like the Patriot Act, and the militarization of the police, had not come about yet, which should have sharpened the divide, but sadly which too only led most “Christian” Americans to increase their support for “the troops” and “our police officers.”
However, despite all the growing violence in the first quarter of the twentieth century and the greater obviousness of the evils of statism, this is still not all the State is capable of carrying out, which means we’re still in a phase where men can somewhat appear to support these things without being exposed as men who support blatant evils and violence. The American police state is only just getting started. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Moreover, much of this violence was perpetrated against foreigners, which is easier for anyone to get behind than violence turned against themselves. Of course, these wars in the Middle East were a pretext for expanding the military, militarizing the police, and growing the domestic surveillance state at home in the name of a “War on Terror.” But many still did not see it. They rooted for the military to crush the Muslims and “fight the terrorists over there so we don’t have to fight them here,” without realizing this would eventually grow the police state at home, and without realizing that God always brings a people’s statist ways upon themselves.
But now, after a quarter-century of military expansion abroad, things are ramping up on the home front. Those who claim to be Christians while supporting the State will increasingly have to contend with the growing obviousness of the violence of statism, as it is no longer out of sight and out of mind, but carried out against their own people. Before Babylon becomes absolutely full of violence and chaos—which, to be clear, is the result not of anarchism but of statism—it has been possible for it to appear as though men might waver between two opinions: that there is such a thing as a “Christian statist.”
However, such a position—attempting to support both the Lord Jesus and Caesar—will become increasingly impossible to maintain as the police state under which we live continues to escalate its violence. Yet this may be precisely what is needed. There was never any such thing as a “Christian statist” to begin with, and it has largely been possible to juggle both claims only because the State’s violence has not been plainly visible to all. It has not yet fully locked down society, declared martial law, or invoked the Insurrection Act — at which point the lines will be more unmistakably drawn. Then we will see who the real Christians are: will you reject the State, or will you continue to support it? That moment has always been approaching. Though many could have been exposed long ago as false converts for cheering on wars against their neighbors in distant lands, the pressure will only intensify as the terror comes home. Will you stand with “law enforcement” as they trample your neighbors and brand them terrorists? Or will you repent of statism and join the true Christians who seek God’s Kingdom?
As awful as it is that we live in this time in history where the idolatry and sloth of our forefathers has now led to a naked expansion of state violence, the one silver lining of getting away from the last half of the twentieth century (the peak days of the empire following World War Two up to the end of the century) is that it will become increasingly more difficult for men to pretend to be Christians while supporting the State. And it will only get worse from here and the contrast will become even greater. Though events like Waco or Ruby Ridge in the 1990s might have shown the way things are going, the full-blown police and surveillance state was still not fully raised up, and these were seen as isolated enough events that weren’t really representative of the inherent violence of human government. From here on out, it should be harder and harder for professing Christians to say with a straight face that they “back the blue” and that they love God and their neighbors.
The dividing lines between true Christians and the false converts are being drawn, and I say, good! It already exists in theory and divine command. There is already no such thing as a Christian who votes for Caesars, serves as his law enforcers, or supports these men from the sidelines. But without any real persecution in America yet, men have been able to pretend they can be Christians and Romans at the same time, and not only will few people bat an eye, but most will think this great contradiction goes hand in hand. Eventually, it will be easier to distinguish the true Christians from the frauds, once it becomes more necessary due to the realities of pervasive state violence to pick a side. Do you trust the Lord alone as your protector? Or will you “back the blue” when the boot comes down? Do you stand with the people who are being persecuted for rejecting the Roman methods of organizing society? Or will you “stand with our law enforcement officers” against “these terrorists”?
Divide and conquer?
Although men typically refer to “divide and conquer” as a strategy by the State to divide men against each other and then rule over them, which is still the case anyway as they look to build adherents of the statist ideology who will turn against their neighbors and brothers, in some sense this division is good. We need to see who the real Christians are and who the statists are. For too long, we have had millions of statists who side with Caesar pretend to be Christian brothers at the same time. We need to see where men intend on falling when things heat up. We need less fence-walkers who claim to support the Lord and Caesar, less lukewarm men who try and straddle the line and claim to love God and presidents, police, and soldiers.
Though many men are uncomfortable with the idea of division, and even call for being nice to false brothers rather than rebuking them for their idolatry, we should arguably welcome the day when it becomes clear who the real Christians are and who are the fakes. Ideally, of course, we would all be united in the shared pursuit of God’s Kingdom. But that simply is not the reality. Millions of men have chosen to side with the statists and will most likely maintain their allegiances even as the violence continues to ramp up.
One thing the State has always had going for it is that increasing its violence, whether in war or domestic clampdowns, has always served to make men redouble their dedication to serving the State rather these evils rebuking them. As the evils and violence of States expand, more and more people, who one might think would become more aware of the mess they have gotten themselves into, only redouble their support for the State. The state operators know this, of course, and so throw as many false flags in the way of the people as they need to in order to get men to clamor to them as their protectors again from “the communists” or “the anarchists” or whatever bogey is being set up to get people to run back to Caesar as their savior. As much as one might think the expansion of state evils would lead men to draw a connection between their sinful support of these systems and the consequences they are now facing for this sin, the State has always been able to find even more supporters out of the chaos and disorder that it bred. As much as we might think that men would finally realize that the “anarchy and lawlessness” they were worried about in an anarchist society is actually true of the statist society, the State has always had a way of causing chaos and finding even more men who claim that more laws and more police violence is needed to clean it up!
As much as we may wish all men were on board with the Christian Anarchist idea—an unfortunate redundancy needed to distinguish the real ones from the fakes—to seek God’s Kingdom and abolish man’s, this is not the case with the people of the professing Christian world, most of whom are raging statist idolaters who think they’re God’s children but are, in fact, given over to a reprobate mind to continue in all their evils and carry out their own self-destruction. Though we may wish such division wasn’t necessary, unfortunately we have millions of men who claim the name of Christ while defending their sinful participation in the kingdoms of the world. These men need to go. They need to be separated out. For too long, they have operated under the Christian banner while acting as enemies of Christ, and millions of people have been led to believe that such men are its true representatives. Indeed, they are among the chief reasons millions have been driven away from Christianity. Who wants to be a Christian when those who seem to represent Christ are cheering on Pharaoh’s footmen stomping on the necks of people in the streets?
Once the divide gets sharper and the kingdoms of the world continue to fall apart, when the majority of men who are presently fence-sitters are finally forced to pick a side and take a stand in a society that finally begins to distinguish Christianity from statism under the irreconcilable political reality, we will likely see both of these positions go to the extremes — as indeed they should be, since it is absolutely illegitimate that statism and Christianity was ever mixed in the first place. Anyone who calls themselves a Christian will finally become a real one, which is to say they will see that Christianity necessitates that one be an anarchist as far as the systems of human government go, and everyone who sides with the State will finally be exposed as a false convert. The true Christians will become anarchist, and everyone who remains a statist will be seen as a fake Christian.
Repenting of statism
Since there are only ever non-statist Christians and non-Christian statists anyway, men will have a choice under the statist expansion in the future to decide where they stand: with the Christian Anarchists, who will be called “terrorists” by the State and put on Pharaoh’s radar to be watched, contained, and taken; or with the ungodly statists who are not Christians at all, who are now cheering on Pharaoh’s pursuit of the real ones and forced to confront their hypocrisy.
It will probably take things getting far worse before men are ready to go all in on God and serve Him and seek His Kingdom alone, or before they are willing to abandon taking His name in vain and openly side with Caesar. For now, calling yourself a “Christian” is just a fun thing to do for most people. It is just their “religion” that has nothing to do with their “politics.” Many do it as a cultural thing or even as a social obligation. Their parents were nominal Christians, their parents’ parents were nominal Christians, and they’re taking up the family tradition of calling yourself a servant of the Lord while not doing anything He says, and indeed doing contrary to what He says, namely supporting kingdoms that Jesus said His Kingdom was not like.
Thus, Jesus unsurprisingly knew that most people who claim to know the Lord are frauds. “‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me” (Matthew 15:8). These people loosely claim to be people who follow the Lord, but when we tell them that it’s time to become active in seeking His Kingdom and repent from seeking the kingdoms of men, they refuse to hear our words, telling us that we must be involved in the politics of Pharaoh’s kingdom still.
“My people come to you as usual, sit before you, and hear your words; but they do not put them into practice. Although they express love with their mouths, their hearts pursue dishonest gain” (Ezekiel 33:21).
These men claim that it is possible to pledge their allegiance to the Lord and Caesar. They are the people whom Scripture calls “double-minded men” (James 1:8), and who, not coincidentally, are unstable in all their ways, raising up endless absurd objections against the idea of seeking God’s Kingdom alone.
Before we get to this point where men can no longer fence-sit and must join the Christian Anarchists or the ungodly statists, the ideological division that is always true in theory will probably have to grow greater in reality first. Although the contradiction and division between Christianity and statism should have always been apparent from reading the Bible alone, it has apparently not become great enough for some in the real world to pick a side. The decision will have to present itself in the very lives of these men: which road will you walk down, given that that State presents one path, and that God’s Kingdom presents another, much narrower one? Which road will you go down, given that the State is going to crack down on all those who uphold God’s anarchist political theology, and will only spare those who pledge allegiance to Caesar? Will you buckle under pressure and say you have no king but Caesar? Or will you say you’re with the Christians and you can hang me on a cross if you must?
Though things have not come fully to this point yet, that’s where they are headed. It’s going to take some wider cracks on the systems of the world for men to choose which side they’re really on and decide if they want to back the blue or join the real Christians and build another Kingdom apart from man’s. But eventually, when domestic tyranny ramps up, the choice will increasingly confront men.
Indeed, things may eventually get bad enough that the people who pretend to be Christians today, all while they apologize not only for the existence of the State but for the specific violence of its Federal agents terrorizing men in the street, may even eventually stop taking the Lord’s name in vain at all, realizing that the two indeed cannot be reconciled and that if they want to keep supporting Caesar, they will have to stop claiming to be followers of Jesus Christ. Obviously, this isn’t ideal. Preferably, men realize that to be a Christian you must renounce your allegiances to the statist kingdoms of the world. I speak here only of the road that some men will inevitably take, and which they have already gone down, many of them to the point of no return. Yet, if men won’t repent of statism and become true Christians who pledge allegiance to the Lord and His Kingdom alone, we do prefer that they stop claiming to be Christians at all.
The eventual choice to abandon Christianity altogether as the evils of human government become increasingly obvious may be especially common among those who are most adamant in their conflation of statism and Christianity, such as so-called “Christian” nationalists. Even on a good day, their commitment to furthering human government and serving the State already outweighs their claims to Christ, and if they were forced to choose, many would sooner stop claiming Christ at all than to abandon their statism.
At any rate, all men are going to have to decide where they stand: with the Lord, or with Caesar. Christianity not only does not approve of statism or the Roman systems of the world, but is defined by its separation from it. To be a Christian means to be an anti-statist. So those idolaters who seek to reconcile their evil politics with the Kingdom of God have two options: attempt to bend Scripture to fit their socialist worldview, or abandon Christianity altogether. Of course, it’s easy for men to attempt to do the former their whole lives. And it is possible too for a completely tyrannical regime to arise in the future that claims to be Christian and draws the foolish masses into believing in it. But if the pressure ever increases on these people and they’re no longer able to defend man’s kingdoms and their claims to Christianity with a straight face, they will sooner abandon their claims of Christianity, which doesn’t allow for their worldly political ideas and ambitions, than they would their statism, which is their true religion and first love.
Statists against Christians
As it already stands today, the majority of professing Christians are absolute frauds who either enthusiastically support statism, or passively believe that these systems should exist. To claim the Lord’s name while being a statist has only been possible in the days leading up to the inevitable decline of the American State, which is the fate of all systems of human government, all which are set up against God. But it should be increasingly difficult once the political violence has spread to the streets, and has even come to the thresholds of homes that were previously thought to be untouchable lands far away from the violence of the cities, to think you can be a Christian who supports the police state.
As statism continues to expand on the domestic front, people will be increasingly confronted with the choice between God and the State — a choice they always needed to make anyway, but which the comfortable days of the empire allowed them to imagine they could avoid. For the time being, many are still able to waver between the two opinions that the prophet Elijah said a man cannot waver between. Of course, we already know that these statists are false converts and where they will most likely fall when the day of all-around tyranny arrives. They will call upon Caesar to “crush the anarchists” and maintain “law and order” in the streets. Even now, the lines are being drawn and men are already deciding where they stand. Yet the problem at present is that they continue to do both under the Lord’s name, when in truth they must choose one or the other: Christianity or statism. And as the tyrannies of statism grow more pervasive, it will become increasingly impossible to claim to follow the Lord Jesus while serving the State.
It is hardly even necessary then to wait and see where people stand. We already know who these men are. All statists are non-Christians. But for a little while longer, they are able to continue claiming to be Christians without being called-out as false converts by others. But we are already seeing what sides men will choose — God or the State — when it comes down to it. If Jesus the agitator and anarchist were walking the earth today preaching the Gospel of another Kingdom, there’s little need to wonder how conservatives who claim Christ would answer if asked what should be done with Him: “Crucify Him, we have no king but Trump.” Probably the majority of people who call themselves Christians today would report Jesus to “the authorities” if He was wanted, and they would buy into all the language these men still use today (“professional agitator,” “anarchist”) to brand others as enemies of the State. You could preach the Gospel of God’s Kingdom to Pharaoh’s servants and call them to stop walking on the wicked path and step down from their jobs, and conservatives would call you a “democrat terrorist.” With police states, you eventually get to a point where repeating the words of God verbatim will have you branded as a “terrorist” by people who call themselves Christians, and where telling these men of the fate of these institutions that they have trusted in to save them — that they will be utterly destroyed and consumed — will have to labeled as an enemy of the State.
All this only reveals one thing that was only a little more obscured before: that all human government exists as an enemy of God and that everyone who stands with these institutions of the world is likewise an enemy of God, per Scripture. Statists are Babylonian whores who hate God and stand as His main enemies.
“You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God” (James 4:4).
Since Babylon hasn’t yet started scooping up masses of Christians, it has been possible for statists to keep pretending they are Christians. It has been mostly unfortunate for the truth that the systems of the world have not unraveled yet, as they must always, because the ability of these plunder systems to persist for sometime has allowed men to support them while maintaining that they are Christians. It has been possible to claim that governments are not really that evil, because Pharaoh’s bootboys have not yet approached their doors. I say we may look forward to this day where the division—it’s always been true anyway—is finally clear for all to see: all true Christians are people who oppose the State and its violence, and all those who support the latter are not Christians at all.
To pledge allegiance to the State or God?
Though we speak here of a day where men will be faced with the decision between becoming an anarchist and joining the only true Christians, or joining the statists and being exposed as non-Christians, we can already see where the men of the latter group will end up once it goes down. Most so-called Christians today are already fighting against the anarchistic Gospel of the Kingdom of God that promises salvation in another Kingdom not of this world. At this point, there won’t be much changing their minds from here on out. Mark and avoid every fake Christian who is a statist, because they will side with Caesar, and not you and the true Christians, when Caesar begins his clampdown. Some of them may repent, but most of them will stay right where they’re at, and their statism will take the forefront to any of their loose and vague claims to Christianity they held before.
Eventually, I imagine, there won’t be much trying to persuade anyone to our position anymore — which, after all, is not “our” position but the position of the whole Bible against the false kingdoms of men. Men will have firmly chosen where they stand, and there won’t be much turning back for them anymore. As state violence ramps up, those who “back the blue” will be fully bought in. Those who serve the Lord alone will be distinguished from them. You won’t need to ask anyone if they’re a Christian or not anymore. If they openly serve Caesar and his boys, they’re most definitely not. Sure, tell them they’re hypocrites when you see them, but they will be even more lost than they are at present once things really get moving. When the dividers and schemers make it necessary to choose whether you stand with them or are to be labeled a dissident anarchist terrorist traitor, most will choose the safe route and abandon the Lord more clearly than they already have at present. You won’t need to ask where someone stands. It will be obvious who they serve. Work to build God’s Kingdom with those who see the truth without much convincing. Depart from those wicked men who support the evil doers, and don’t associate with them unless they repent — which, by that time, will be increasingly unlikely.
As much as we may try to wake up the statist idolaters of the world, we have to realize we’re fighting against men who God has given over to a reprobate mind and who cannot hear the truth anymore no matter how much we give it to them, because the Lord himself has shut their ears up to hearing it as a way of letting them destroy themselves by making them unable to turn back from their evil ways, which will be their end.
“They know not, nor do they discern, for He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand” (Isaiah 44:18).
Statists are the people of the Bible who the prophets called “foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear” (Jeremiah 5:21). We should preach the true Gospel to them, but we should expect that most of them will side with Pharaoh’s footmen and chariot-operators once the rulers decide to launch their full-scale war against the people.
Propaganda against true Christians
Those fake Christians who are redoubling their efforts to show everyone that they support “law enforcement” are probably not even aware just how much they are caught up in propaganda that is being used by the State to make it seem as if those who oppose human government, as all true Christians must, are the bad guys and criminals. But these are the false dichotomies they are spinning: where you’re either on the side of the State and its agents of violence, which supposedly embodies “law and order,” or on the side of the “anarchists” who are seeking chaos. There are thought to be no other options, and the choice for the professing Christians seems obvious: you stand with the State as the law- and order-givers of society. Everyone who doesn’t is an “ungodly anarchist.”
All these false dichotomies spun by the statist intellectuals and rulers of the world have served to support their ungodly political agendas, while branding everyone else — even the true men of God — as people who are enemies of society and social order, all while they’re the men who perpetrate the “lawlessness and anarchy” they accuse us of spreading. Especially since Operation Covid 19, where they began to conflate opposition to police violence with “leftism,” the conservatives have been trained to believe that anyone who opposes law enforcement, whether ostensibly or truly, is a socialist or a “democrat.” The way the narrative-spinners have set up things in the last decade, the men who actually begin to seek God’s Kingdom will be called “terrorists” and “communists” by “conservatives” who call themselves “Christians.” However, this is no different than the times when Jesus walked the earth, and those men eventually conceded they had no king but Caesar when it came down to it.
They are working to build a narrative against all the very things that Christians should be doing if they were actually seeking God’s Kingdom rather than involving themselves in man’s kingdoms or slothfully sitting in the pews of false churches, and doing so in a way that conservatives will call us “communists” and side with the ungodly statists against us. These things are evangelizing men in the streets, calling men to repent of supporting human government, and going to the institutions of the world to rebuke men and point them to the politics of another Kingdom. Thus, “anarchist” and “agitator” are both being thrown around as bad words, by actually-bad men — two things that every true and serious Christian must be. And now, with the recent “attack” on a church in St. Paul, Minnesota, where some protestors entered into a “church” and began chanting their protest slogans, “disrupting church service” is added to the list. Soon, you’ll be called a “terrorist” for holding a sign outside of a so-called church, which all true Christians should be doing anyway.
It’s safe to say that if we were to ever get a Christian Abolitionist movement off the ground and actually start building God’s Kingdom, that as soon as they started crucifying us upside down, every nominal Christian in America would say “they shouldn’t have broken the law.”
As the violence of statism grows worse in America, the gap between true and fake Christians — those who seek the Lord’s anarchist Kingdom or those who work to further Caesars — will continue to be exposed, and all for the good of the truth, I say. Those who preach the anarchistic Gospel of the Kingdom of God will find themselves as enemies of statists, i.e., with the people who the Bible says are friends with the world, and those statists will have to realize that they’re not Christians at all.
Statists are enemies of God. They are the people who Scripture says are friends with the world, ie., its governments and institutions. And unfortunately, they outnumber the friends of God who are ready to repent and seek His Kingdom. Yet it is better to be found as an enemy of these enemies of God, than it is to be a friend of the world and for God to count us as one of His enemies. If we must endure the scorn of statists, then so be it. God forbid we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods and leave behind the true Gospel message of salvation under another King to appease those who trust in the gospels of men who they believe will “save the country.” The Gospel of the Kingdom of God shatters the statist worldview of the masses who have been unaware that their political ideology for the kingdoms of the world is the essence of man’s sin and rebellion against God. When confronted with it, then, the only choice is to deny it or repent. Sadly, most people choose the former. They refuse to repent from their idolatry and make any excuse in the book (“Paul said to submit to the authorities!”) to justify their sin.
What we have speculated, however, is that people who currently profess the Lord’s name all while pursuing worldly systems that are contrary to His cause, will eventually come out and either (1) stop calling themselves Christians altogether and clearly side with the State, or (2) be more clearly seen to be not Christians at all. This, of course, will be helped by more people discovering Christian Anarchism and representing Christianity to a wider portion of the population as a clearly anarchist doctrine that rejects human government. Sadly, for the time being, the false converts (i.e., the statists) have been able to falsely represent Christianity to the masses as a (supposedly) statist idea of supporting Republican presidents, police, and soldiers. This ungodly philosophy should have been exposed a long time ago, but since it’s still around, it’s our goal today to show everyone just how fraudulent it is: the only true Christians are anarchists, and anyone who is not an anarchist is a devil-worshiper (Matt 4).
But doesn’t the State serve God?
The statists who currently call themselves “Christians” will object to this assessment, however. They will say that things don’t have to be this way, and that this is the reason we need a “Christian State.” They will try to argue that the evils today are the fruit of “secularism,” rather than statism per se. This is a failed attempt to cling to the inherently ungodly systems of human government rather than repent. Yet the violence of the State is not extrinsic or accidental; it’s part of the program and can’t be separated from it. All human governments are founded on force and fraud and rebellion against God’s anarchist Kingdom, and they are perpetuated in it, too. It is no coincidence things turned out this way in America, which is a land of ungodly statists who are only reaping the evils they have sown.
Our struggle now is that even in a better time, without soldiers occupying the streets full time, it has become nearly impossible to get professing Christians on board with God’s Kingdom. You can’t even get most professing Christians to take up the negative side of the coin and stop putting their hand to the upbuilding and advancement of the evil systems of human government, much less get them to commit to the positive side of the coin of upbuilding and advancing the politics of God’s Kingdom after their repentance. Most of them still take the idea that the State is “ordained” by God to mean that it was God’s perfect will for our means of organizing law and justice, when this is not at all the case.
The worldly-statist ideas and ideologies that have been spread through the false churches and American culture have served to keep professing Christians in the dark, refusing to repent for their wicked political philosophy of statism, which comes from the devil. They have been trained to believe that God wanted them to live under a system just like the American one that they have grown up under, as the only model of (authoritarian) government they have ever known. They have been so simpleminded and foolish to think that the kingdoms of the world are the way God wanted men to organize their societies, rather than seeing that these are rebellious and ungodly political systems that destroy people for their sins of founding and furthering them. They shout “Romans 13” anytime you tell them to repent of statism, because they do not even know their Bibles and the history of the Israelites who were judged by foreign rulers for all their similarly idoaltrous ways.
The sense in which the State is a “servant” or “minister” of God is not a good one, contrary to the idolatrous thinking of most Christians today, who just take this to mean whatever they want it to mean. The State “serves” God by doing evil, against the evil people who support it. Nebuchadnezzar was a “servant” of God (Jer 27:6, 43:10). This doesn’t mean they’re actually pious servants or men self-consciously serving God’s Law, but are effective plunderers who carry out God’s will of judging evil people, namely the very statists who think States can be godly. God doesn’t establish governments for “order.” He “ordains” them as a judgment against statists who refuse to seek His Kingdom. The human governments of the world are set up by men in their rebellion to God. So long as human government exits, which is set up by sinners in rebellion to God, it is “ordained” to punish the men whose wicked works seek rulers. This, by no means whatsoever, furnishes an argument that one should: (1) approve of human government; (2) serve these systems by voting or seeking political office; or (3) become patriot idolaters who root for police, soldiers, and presidents. Indeed, all these things are the original sins that brought a people under judgment at the hand of the State.
Those statist idolaters who cite “Romans 13!” have not supplied the defense of their idolatry that they believe they are doing, and they have still not learned the sense in which wicked Babylonians are God’s “servants” against Babylonians like them. Just as men are so lost in sin to set up human systems of government, so they will naturally be so lost in sin that they can’t even recognize the judgment they are under and will make any excuse to not align themselves with God’s word again. All the evils that have come from our statist society were not avoidable or anomalous evils that could have been prevented if we just had different men in power or “stuck to the constitution” or went about human government in some other way; they are the God-ordained consequences that must always come upon a people who have chosen to go down the wicked and wide road of statism, that will always be a people’s destruction.
When will men wake up?
Though God has awakened a few souls in the past few years, who have had their eyes opened to the evils of the world and its governments and have repented of serving them, the lack of widespread tyrannies in America — a permanent police presence and outright suppression of dissent — has kept many from finding God yet, who means for these things to be a rebuke unto them. They have managed to go along with the evils for now, thinking that their evil ideas are fine by God, or that they are not under judgment for their sins.
Unfortunately, it seems that men are going to have to learn the hard way that they cannot abandon God for human government without consequences, and that all the evils of human rule on earth today are but a divine judgment against the sins that set them up and continue to support them.
“Your own evil will discipline you; your own apostasies will reprimand you. Consider and realize how evil and bitter it is for you to forsake the LORD your God and to have no fear of Me,’ declares the Lord GOD of Hosts” (Jeremiah 2:19).
God hates more than anything to see that our people have taken the statist path, which is the wide road of destruction. He hates seeing that men have perverted His Law and Justice by raising up false gods to be their providers of “law and order,” which not coincidentally gets entirely perverted and corrupted under their rule. Though God called us to take dominion of the land, serve each other freely, and care for the cause and liberty of our neighbors, our people have sinfully raised up false gods to rule over other men, outsourced their responsibilities to protect and feed their people to human rulers, and turned their idea of “religion” into nothing more than partaking in vain church rituals rather than practicing the pure religion of actually providing for others. We have gone down the wicked path of statism, where there are only a few godly men left who can see it. God is grieved at this sight:
“Hear the word of the LORD, O children of Israel, for the LORD has a case against the people of the land: ‘There is no truth, no loving devotion, and no knowledge of God in the land! Cursing and lying, murder and stealing, and adultery are rampant; one act of bloodshed follows another” (Hosea 4:1-2).
When God looks down at our people today, millions of whom profess His name but do the opposite of what He says, He sees a bunch of evil statists who chase after the violent, man-made governments of the world and have turned away from the peace and freedom that He would have provided in His anarchist society if only men would have trusted in the Lord to serve and save them under this Kingdom order.
“Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear. 3For your hands are stained with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, and your tongue mutters injustice. No one calls for justice; no one pleads his case honestly. They rely on empty pleas; they tell lies; they conceive mischief and give birth to iniquity. They hatch the eggs of vipers and weave a spider’s web. Whoever eats their eggs will die; crack one open, and a viper is hatched. Their cobwebs cannot be made into clothing, and they cannot cover themselves with their works. Their deeds are sinful deeds, and acts of violence are in their hands. Their feet run to evil; they are swift to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are sinful thoughts; ruin and destruction lie in their wake. The way of peace they have not known, and there is no justice in their tracks. They have turned them into crooked paths; no one who treads on them will know peace. Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We hope for light, but there is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in gloom. Like the blind, we feel our way along the wall, groping like those without eyes. We stumble at midday as in the twilight; among the vigorous we are like the dead. We all growl like bears and moan like doves. We hope for justice, but find none, for salvation, but it is far from us. For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us. Our transgressions are indeed with us, and we know our iniquities: rebelling and denying the LORD, turning away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering lies from the heart. So justice is turned away, and righteousness stands at a distance. For truth has stumbled in the public square, and honesty cannot enter. Truth is missing, and whoever turns from evil becomes prey. The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice. He saw that there was no man; He was amazed that there was no one to intercede. So His own arm brought salvation, and His own righteousness sustained Him. He put on righteousness like a breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on His head; He put on garments of vengeance and wrapped Himself in a cloak of zeal” (Isaiah 59:1-17).
You statists have been warned. You’re down to your last chance. It’s time to repent of your support for human government and serve the Lord alone, or to be counted fully as one of His enemies, by God and those who seek His ways. He’s waiting for you to come home, out of the arms of the Caesars and Pharaohs whom you have taken refuge in.
“Seek the LORD while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked man forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that He may have compassion, and to our God, for He will freely pardon” (Isaiah 55:6-7).
We’re running out of time to seek the Kingdom of God together. Not that it will ever stop being the only solution, but that getting a head start on organizing this alternative society to the statist systems of the world is always going to be a little easier than doing it when we are forced, out of necessity, to gather with our neighbors because the plagues have come to hit Egypt already and their fake, controlled economic system isn’t even partially functioning anymore. Better to start figuring it out now than during the famines. Better to start finding out who the real Christians are — those who have repented of statism and are focused on building God’s Kingdom — so that they can be separated from the fakes when the time comes.
Prayer
Lord God in heaven, we need you now more than ever. Most unfortunately, as You know, we are highly outnumbered by men who claim to be your followers, yet who chase after the false gods of the world who brutalize the people of the earth and plunder your creation, and who even join them while wearing their cross necklaces and pretending like they are our Christian brothers. Not only do they not know You, even though they claim to, but they are also going to side with satan’s jackboot thugs when they start trying to kill us off. Protect us from these men, both Pharaoh’s servants and his apologists among the population who claim to be Christians. Cause these men to stumble. Let the snares and nets they set for us become a trap to themselves. Let them fall into the pits that they dig for us. Wipe these wicked men off the face of the earth already. We will build in their place, and this time care for the needy of society on our own. Remove these evil statists off Your earth, and we will practice pure religion in their absence. When the dividing lines are finally drawn, and it is seen by more men that the only ones who truly serve you are the ones who are repenting of their support for human government, then we beg You to really be with our movement. We’re going to need you. We cannot do it alone. We will be a small remnant of faithful servants and persecuted by the state rulers, who will have the support of millions of men who take your name in vain while cheering on the tyranny against us. Unless You are so fed up with these men and have turned them into full on irredeemable reprobates so that they destroy themselves in their own idolatry, we ask also that You wake them up and cause them to repent. Bring all the statists of the world to repentance. Cause them to realize all their evildoing and to turn back to You. Cause the statists in the population to have a heart soft enough to admit they have been fools who have hated You, and cause the men who strap on boots and tactical vests to serve the government of the devil to have a change of heart and come back home and join the Christian Anarchist movement of people seeking Your Kingdom alone. Don’t let them destroy us. All praise to You, Lord! We trust You to get us out of Egypt. We do not trust in our own might, and most certainly not in Pharaohs and Caesars, which we know is the iniquity that has brought the people of the world into bondage. Don’t forget us, Lord! Cause a true revival among our people that is decidedly opposed to the false kingdoms of the world. Wake some people up. Help build up our numbers. Cause the men who currently serve the devil’s government to repent, or destroy them if they will not. Amen.
